Roofing at the foot of the Wasatch
Ogden sits right up against the mountains, and when the wind comes down those slopes, roofs feel it first. Why that matters to you: a few lifted shingles after a windstorm look like nothing from the driveway, and they are exactly how a roof starts to leak.
The windstorm of April 1999
On April 23, 1999, a downslope windstorm came off the west side of the Wasatch and produced gusts to 113 miles per hour at valley elevations. The National Weather Service’s case study reports twenty semi trucks blown over on I-15 and widespread damage to roofs, trees, and small structures across Davis, Weber, and eastern Box Elder counties, with residential damage estimated at $3 to $5 million.
Storms that big are rare, but the pattern is not. East wind spills down the canyons and speeds up as it drops toward the valley. Wind works at shingle tabs, edges, and ridgelines first. If you spot lifted or missing shingles after a big wind, let us know, and we will have somebody there in less than 48 hours to assess it and do a storm walkthrough.
Four in ten homes were built before 1960
Ogden’s homes are older than most people expect. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the median home in Ogden was built in 1969, about four in ten were built before 1960, and more than 5,000 go back to before 1940. Under an old roof we often find older decking, past repairs, and sometimes a second layer laid right over the first. We tear off to the deck every time, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us.
Historic homes on the bench
Some of those homes are a lot older than 1940. The Jefferson Avenue Historic District, between 25th and 27th Streets, is a block of homes built from the 1880s to the 1920s. If your home or district is on the Ogden City Register of Historic Resources, the city’s Landmarks Commission issues a Certificate of Historic Appropriateness before any building permit, so plan for that step before you plan a start date.

Recent work
Recent work in Ogden
We’ve been in business since 2007, and Ogden is straight up I-15 from our office. Here are two of our Ogden jobs.
Down to the deck, under the mountains
The old roof is off and the deck is bare, with underlayment going down on the near slope. This is the stage nobody sees once the shingles go on, so we photograph it, and the owner gets the photos. If the decking is soft, this is when it gets replaced instead of covered up.
A whole street from the air
From the drone you see more than one roof. You see how the neighborhood has aged together, which roofs face the wind, and where the trees hang over. That is the view behind every free inspection we do in Ogden.
Nearby, we also work in Layton, Roy, Clearfield, Bountiful, North Salt Lake.

Ogden roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Ogden homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing that works for you. We work with lending partners and also offer in-house financing, so an older Ogden roof does not have to wait for a perfect month. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
From the ground, mostly you cannot, and that is the problem. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
What do east winds do to Ogden roofs?
They find the weak shingles first. When east wind pours down the west side of the Wasatch, it speeds up as it drops toward the valley. In April 1999 a windstorm like that hit 113 mph at valley elevations and damaged roofs across Weber and Davis counties. After a big wind, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before a lifted shingle turns into a leak.
How fast can somebody check my Ogden roof after a storm?
Less than 48 hours. If you are worried about your home after a recent storm, let us know and we will have somebody there to assess it and do a walkthrough for you.
Does my historic Ogden home need approval to re-roof?
If it is on the Ogden City Register of Historic Resources, yes. The city’s Landmarks Commission issues a Certificate of Historic Appropriateness before any building permit for work on a registered home or district. Plan for that step before you plan the start date.
Do you pull permits in Ogden?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Ogden?
50+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records. 16 are in 84401, 15 in 84403, and 10 in 84404. Every one photographed.
