Residential roofing questions
We try to be as transparent as we can. These are the questions Utah homeowners ask us the most.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing that works for you, in-house or through our lending partners. Ask during your inspection and we will find the one that fits. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off. See financing.
Do you handle insurance?
We document; you and your insurance company decide. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file claims, and we never promise a free roof. What we do: inspect the roof in person, photograph every slope, and give you a dated report and a written estimate you can hand to your carrier. Then we explain each step so nothing surprises you. How insurance works with a roof.
Can you work on a roof that has solar panels?
Yes. We are licensed for solar work (the S202 classification on our Utah contractor license, 6933591-5501), so our own crew takes the panels off and puts them back, whether the roof needs a repair or a full replacement. One company handles the whole job. Roof replacement with solar.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is why good photos matter. More on insurance.
How do I know if a storm damaged my roof?
From the ground, mostly you cannot, and that is the problem. Look for shingle granules at the downspouts, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and gutters, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope. Storm and hail damage.
Should I repair or replace my roof?
The roof decides, and we tell you which one it is. Our rule of thumb: if your roof is older than 30 years or has had recent damage, definitely give us a call. Damage in one spot usually means a repair; worn shingles across the whole roof usually mean a replacement. Our inspectors are paid a salary, not commission, so you get the honest answer either way.
Do you replace roofs in the winter?
Yes, weather dependent. Our job records include documented winter replacements. Snow does not change the 86-step checklist; the weather sometimes changes the date, and we will be straight with you about timing.
Who will actually be on my roof?
Crews that have been with us for years. The A and B teams have worked with us for more than four years, and the A team works almost entirely for Definitive. A project manager is on site, and we photograph everything: hundreds of photos on every job.
Can I live in the house during the job?
Yes, most families do. It is loud while tear-off and nailing are happening, so plan calls and naps around it. Nothing about the work requires you to move out.
Will I find any nails or trash after the job?
Our cleanup standard is simple: you won’t find a nail. Before tear-off we hang a catch-all skirt and tarp your landscaping, and the yard and driveway get a full sweep before we call a job done. If we missed anything, call us and we will come back for it.
