A young city with its first roofs coming due
Most of Syracuse is newer than the people who live there. Why that matters to you: when a whole subdivision goes up in the same few years, the roofs age on the same clock, and a lot of them are reaching their first replacement right now.
From 9,000 people to 32,000 in twenty years
Syracuse was farm and hay country near the lake for a long time. It takes its name from Syracuse, New York, a town famous for salt, which fits a place this close to the Great Salt Lake. It formed a town board in 1935 and became a city in 1950. Then it took off: about 9,400 people in 2000, about 24,300 in 2010, and over 32,000 by 2020, per the census figures on Wikipedia.
Seven in ten homes were built after 2000
The housing tells the same story. According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (via Census Reporter), the median home in Syracuse was built in 2005. About seven in ten went up in 2000 or later, and four in ten were built in that one decade from 2000 to 2009. Those first-wave roofs are around 20 years old now. Not every one needs replacing, and we will tell you if yours does not, but this is the age when a free inspection earns its keep.
When we do replace one, we tear off to the deck, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us. On shingle roofs we run GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages, and most residential replacements are done in 24 to 48 hours.
Out by the lake, under the east wind
Syracuse is the doorway to Antelope Island. You head west on Antelope Drive to the guard house at the start of the causeway, as the Visit Utah route from Syracuse lays out. Out here by the lake you are farther from the canyons, but Davis County as a whole knows the canyon winds. On April 23, 1999, a downslope windstorm caused widespread damage to roofs, trees, and small structures across Davis, Weber, and eastern Box Elder counties, according to the National Weather Service’s case study. If you spot lifted or missing shingles after a big wind, we will have someone there in less than 48 hours for a storm walkthrough.
Solar panels and snow
A lot of the Syracuse roofs we have photographed carry solar panels. When a roof with panels needs work, our own licensed crew takes them off and puts them back, so you deal with one company instead of two. Syracuse also averages about 39 inches of snow a year, so we check the eaves and valleys where ice likes to sit while we are up there.
Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.
Recent work
Recent work in Syracuse
We’ve been in business since 2007, and Syracuse is a straight shot up I-15 from our South Jordan office. Here are two of our Syracuse jobs.
Shingles and solar on one roof
A Syracuse home with panels on two slopes. From the drone we can see every row of panels, every vent, and every valley in one pass, and that view goes into the dated photo report you keep.
A typical Syracuse roofline
Hips, valleys, and a lot of roof for the size of the lot. Valleys carry the most water on any roof, so they are the first place we look on an inspection.
Nearby, we also work in Layton, Clearfield, Kaysville, Roy, Ogden.

Syracuse roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Syracuse homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, financing that works for you. Pick one of our lending partners or our own in-house financing. When a whole Syracuse subdivision comes due at once, your budget does not have to keep pace with the house next door. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We document it, top to bottom. We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report, and with your OK we answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Weather damage that nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
Usually you cannot from the driveway, and that is the problem. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
My Syracuse home was built in the 2000s. Is the roof due?
It is worth a look. Seven in ten Syracuse homes were built in 2000 or later, and the ones from that first wave have roofs that are about 20 years old now. Age alone does not mean replace. The free inspection tells you what you actually have, with dated photos of every slope, and we will tell you straight if it has years left.
Does the wind really reach Syracuse?
Yes, Davis County gets serious east wind. In April 1999 a downslope windstorm caused widespread damage to roofs, trees, and small structures across Davis and Weber counties, according to the National Weather Service. After a big wind, call us and we will have someone on site for a storm walkthrough in less than 48 hours.
What if my neighborhood has an HOA?
Check your CC&Rs before you pick a color. Some HOAs limit roofing materials and colors, and some want to approve the change first. We give you the exact shingle line and color on the estimate, so you have what the HOA asks for in one place.
Do you pull permits in Syracuse?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Syracuse?
10+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records, not an estimate. Every one photographed.
