The town Hill Field built, and its roofs today
Roy grew up fast in the 1940s and 1950s, and a lot of those houses are still standing. Why that matters to you: a 70-year-old house has usually had a few roofs already, and what is under the shingles matters as much as the shingles.
Named for a boy, built for an air base
Roy went by a few names before it settled on one. It was named for Roy C. Peebles, a local schoolteacher’s son, and it became a city on March 10, 1937. Then Hill Field opened next door. During World War II Roy housed many of the workers from Hill, the Navy Supply Depot, and the Defense Supply Depot, and the town went from about 3,700 people in 1950 to over 9,200 in 1960 and over 14,000 by 1970, per the census figures on Wikipedia.
About four in ten homes were built from 1950 to 1979
You can still see that boom in the housing. According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (via Census Reporter), almost 2,000 Roy homes were built in the 1950s alone, and about four in ten went up between 1950 and 1979. Another big wave came in the 1990s. On the older ones we often find a second layer of shingles over the first, past patch jobs, and decking that has taken a leak or two. We tear off to the deck every time, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us.
East wind off the Wasatch
Roy sits out on the flat west of the mountains, but the canyon winds still reach it. In 1983 a downslope windstorm produced gusts to 104 mph near Hill Air Force Base, and on April 23, 1999, another one caused widespread damage to roofs, trees, and small structures across Davis, Weber, and eastern Box Elder counties, according to the National Weather Service’s case study. Wind works at shingle tabs, edges, and ridgelines first. If you spot lifted or missing shingles after a big wind, we will have someone there in less than 48 hours for a storm walkthrough.
Up I-15 from South Jordan
We have been in business since 2007, and almost all of our Roy jobs are in the 84067 ZIP code. Every inspection starts with the drone, and you get a dated photo report of every slope, whether you need a repair, a replacement, or nothing at all. On shingle roofs we run GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages.
Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.
Recent work
Recent work in Roy
We’ve been in business since 2007, and Roy is right off I-15 on the way to Ogden. Here are two views from our Roy jobs.
A street that grew up together
Single-story homes on wide lots, built in the same era. From the drone you can see how a whole block ages together, which is why one roof on a street is often followed by the next.
Where the roof meets the wall
Here the shingles at the edge no longer lie flat, right where a lower roof runs into the siding. Spots like this are where water gets in first, so we photograph them up close and show you exactly what we found.
Nearby, we also work in Ogden, Clearfield, Syracuse, Layton, Kaysville.

Roy roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Roy homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, so an older roof never has to wait for a perfect year. You can go through one of our lending partners or use our in-house financing, and we lay out both next to your estimate. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We handle the documentation. We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report, and with your OK we answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage the weather did on its own. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
Most of it does not show from the ground. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
My Roy home was built in the 1950s. What should I expect under the roof?
Some history. Homes that age have often had more than one roof, sometimes a second layer laid right over the first, and older decking that has seen a few leaks. We tear off to the deck, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us.
How strong does the wind get in Roy?
Strong enough to take shingles. The National Weather Service recorded gusts to 104 mph near Hill Air Force Base in a 1983 windstorm, and a 1999 windstorm damaged roofs across Weber and Davis counties. After a big wind, call us and we will have someone on site for a storm walkthrough in less than 48 hours.
Do you pull permits in Roy?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Roy?
10+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records, almost all of them in the 84067 ZIP code. Every one photographed.
