Roofing on the North Salt Lake bench

Most of our North Salt Lake roofs sit up on the east bench, above 5,000 feet, right under the mountains. Why that matters to you: a bench roof sees colder nights and more snow than a roof down by the freeway, and it often shows wear sooner.

A town that started on the hillside

North Salt Lake has always been a hillside town. By 1930 there were already about sixty-five homes on the hill above the highway. In 1946 a developer bought more hillside land to build homes, and the fight over spring water that followed is what got the town incorporated that September, with just 456 acres, according to the city’s own history. The town has grown a lot since then, but the bench is still where most of our North Salt Lake work is.

Up on the bench

We ran every one of our North Salt Lake jobs through USGS elevation data. The lowest sits around 4,200 feet. Most sit above 5,000. That is roughly 800 feet of climb inside one small city, and the higher homes get colder nights, more snow on the roof, and more ice at the eaves. On some of them we recommend ice and water protection and heat cable. On shingle roofs we run GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages.

When the east wind blows

North Salt Lake sits at the south end of Davis County, and Davis County knows wind. On December 1, 2011, the National Weather Service recorded gusts of 102 mph near Centerville, and police asked people in Bountiful, North Salt Lake, and Woods Cross to stay off the roads, as the Deseret News reported. Wind like that finds the weak shingles first. If you are worried after a storm, we will have somebody on site in less than 48 hours to walk it with you, and our storm damage page shows what to look for.

Street by street

We have 35+ documented residential jobs in North Salt Lake, all in the 84054 ZIP code, and on a few bench streets we have roofed house after house. Homes built together age together. When we are working in a neighborhood, our project managers go door to door to let the neighbors know and offer free inspections. Our inspectors and sales reps are paid a salary, not commission, so nobody is going to push you into a roof you do not need.

Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.

This one sits high on the bench with the mountains right behind it. Higher up means more wind and more winter, so we photograph the edges, valleys, and ridges on every slope.

North Salt Lake roofing questions

Questions we get all the time from North Salt Lake homeowners.

Do you offer financing?

Yes. Our priority is keeping you safe, so we offer in-house financing as well as options through our lending partners. Ask and we will find one that fits. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.

Do you handle insurance?

We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.

What counts as an act of God?

Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.

How do I tell if I have storm damage?

From the ground, mostly you cannot, and that is the problem. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.

Do you work on roofs with solar panels?

Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.

What do the east winds do to North Salt Lake roofs?

They go after edges, ridges, and loose shingles first. After a big wind event, look for lifted or missing shingles and pieces in the yard. If you are worried, we will have somebody on site in less than 48 hours to walk it with you.

Do bench homes in North Salt Lake need heat cables?

Some do. Most of our North Salt Lake jobs sit above 5,000 feet, where it is colder and snow hangs on longer than down by the freeway. We install heat cable where the roof calls for it, and we will tell you straight if yours does not.

How many roofs have you done in North Salt Lake?

35+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records. All of them are in 84054, and on a few streets we have roofed house after house.
