Clearfield, Utah
From Sand Ridge to the gate of Hill Air Force Base
Clearfield was built around two military bases, and a lot of its homes are rented. Why that matters to you: whether you live in the house or own it from across town, you need to know what the roof is doing without climbing up there yourself.
A farm town that became a base town
Clearfield was settled in 1877 by Richard and Emily Hamblin and was first called Sand Ridge, per its Wikipedia history. It stayed a quiet farming town until the military showed up. Hill Field launched in 1938 and by 1943 was the largest employer in Utah, and the Navy opened the Clearfield Naval Supply Depot in 1943 with nearly 8,000 civilian workers. Clearfield, Sunset, and Layton became bedroom communities for both, according to the Utah Division of State History. The depot closed by 1962 and became the Freeport Center, which is still one of the big job centers in town.
Four in ten homes are rented
All those jobs brought a lot of renters. According to the Census Bureau’s American Community Survey (via Census Reporter), about 41 percent of occupied homes in Clearfield are rented. If you own one of them, the dated drone photo report is built for you: you see every slope, every vent, and every soft spot from wherever you are, and you decide on a repair or a replacement with the photos in front of you.
The 1970s are the biggest decade
The same survey shows more Clearfield homes went up in the 1970s than in any decade before 2000, and close to 1,900 were built before 1960. A home from that era has likely had at least one roof already, and some have a low-slope section over a carport, porch, or addition that needs a membrane instead of shingles. We tear off to the deck, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us. On shingle roofs we run GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages.
Wind at the base of the mountains
Hill sits right on Clearfield’s east side, and the National Weather Service recorded gusts to 104 mph near the base in a 1983 downslope windstorm. In April 1999 another one caused widespread damage to roofs, trees, and small structures across Davis and Weber counties, per the National Weather Service’s case study. If you spot lifted or missing shingles after a big wind, we will have someone there in less than 48 hours for a storm walkthrough.
Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.
Recent work
Recent work in Clearfield
We’ve been in business since 2007, and every one of our Clearfield jobs is in the 84015 ZIP code. Here is a closer look at one of them.
A low-slope roof, up close
Not every Clearfield roof is pitched. This one is a white membrane, and on a low slope the seams and the spots around vents are what keep water out. That is where our photos focus.
The same house from the yard
From the ground, a low-pitched roof like this one barely shows at all. That is exactly why every inspection starts with the drone, so you can see what the street cannot.
Nearby, we also work in Syracuse, Layton, Roy, Kaysville, Ogden.

Clearfield roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Clearfield homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, whether you live in the home or rent it out. Our lending partners and our own in-house financing both let you spread a roof over time, and we will walk through which one fits at the estimate. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
Our job is the paper trail. We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report, and with your OK we answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
You usually cannot see it from the yard. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
I own a rental in Clearfield. Can you work with my tenants?
Yes. About four in ten Clearfield homes are rented, so this is a common question. We schedule around the people living there, send you the dated photo report so you can see the roof without driving over, and clean up so your tenants do not find a nail. If you manage several properties, our commercial roofing team works with property managers too.
Do you work on flat or low-slope roofs in Clearfield?
Yes. Some older homes have a low-slope section over a porch, carport, or addition. Those need a membrane, not shingles, and we inspect and photograph them the same way we do the rest of the roof.
How hard does the wind hit near Hill Air Force Base?
Hard. The National Weather Service recorded gusts to 104 mph near Hill AFB in a 1983 windstorm, and a 1999 windstorm damaged roofs across Davis and Weber counties. After a big wind, call us and we will have someone on site for a storm walkthrough in less than 48 hours.
Do you pull permits in Clearfield?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Clearfield?
10+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records, all in the 84015 ZIP code. Every one photographed.
