Provo, Utah
Fort Utah, a college town, and its own power company
Provo is one of the oldest cities in Utah, and it is also a college town. Why that matters to you: Provo roofs range from homes built before 1940 to student rentals, and a lot of them belong to people who are not the ones living under them.
Fort Utah, 1849
Provo started as Fort Utah in 1849. The first fort was a set of log houses inside a 14-foot palisade, south of the Provo River near where I-15 crosses it today. After its first year of flooding, the settlers moved it northeast, to where North Park is now, according to the Provo City Library. The river still runs through town, and the mountains still stand right over it.
Six in ten Provo homes are rented
Home to BYU, Provo rents more than it owns. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, about six in ten occupied homes in Provo are rented. If you own one of them, you do not need to meet us there. We fly the drone, walk the roof, and send you a dated photo report you can read from anywhere, so a repair gets handled before it turns into a call from your tenant about a ceiling stain.
Older homes and the Landmarks Commission
The same survey counts more than 2,700 Provo homes built before 1940. Under a roof that old we often find older decking, past repairs, and sometimes a second layer over the first. We tear off to the deck every time, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us. If your home is one of Provo’s historic sites or landmarks, the city’s Landmarks Commission reviews Certificates of Historic Appropriateness, so check with the city before you plan a start date.
Solar on a Provo roof
Here is one a lot of people do not know until they ask: Provo runs its own utility, Provo Power. Rooftop solar needs a net metering permit from the city, extra credits from an oversized system are zeroed out every February, and if you move into a home that already has panels, you sign the city’s license agreement, per Provo Power’s solar page. We hold the solar license, so if you are thinking about solar panels, or you already have them and the roof underneath needs work, one crew handles both. On shingle roofs we recommend GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that run in our packages.

Recent work
Recent work in Provo
We’ve been in business since 2007, and Provo is a regular drive down I-15 for our crews. Here are two of our Provo jobs, both in the snow.
Roofing in the snow
A brick Provo home with snow still on the roof, shingle bundles staged on the ridge, a catch net along the wall, and a dumpster right by the house. Weather dependent, we keep working through the winter months, and every stage gets photographed.
Snow on an old shake roof
Wood shakes on a Provo home with snow along the edge. Shake dries out, splits, and curls with age, and snow that melts and refreezes at the eave is how ice dams start. If you have a shake roof, the free inspection tells you how much life it has left.
Nearby, we also work in Orem, Springville, Lehi, Heber City.

Provo roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Provo homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Nobody should have to choose between a dry house and groceries. We offer in-house financing, which we set up for families all the time, and we have options through our lending partners too. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
Most storm damage cannot be seen from the yard. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
Is solar different in Provo?
Yes, because Provo runs its own power company. Provo Power requires a net metering permit for rooftop solar, and if your system makes more than you use, the city zeroes out those extra credits every February. We are licensed for solar, so we can walk you through it before anything goes on your roof.
I bought a Provo home that already has solar. Do I need to do anything?
Yes, with the city. Provo Power asks move-in customers with existing panels to sign its Net Metering License Agreement and follow its checklist. If the roof under those panels is getting old, that is a good time for a free inspection too.
Does my historic Provo home need approval to re-roof?
It might. Provo’s Landmarks Commission reviews applications for Certificates of Historic Appropriateness on the city’s historic sites and landmarks. If your home is one of them, check with the city before you plan a start date.
Do you pull permits in Provo?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Provo?
18 documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records: 9 in 84604, 3 in 84601, and 3 in 84606. Every one photographed.
