From orchards on the Provo Bench to Family City USA
Orem was orchards before it was neighborhoods. Why that matters to you: the city filled in over a few big building waves, so whole streets of Orem roofs share the same age, and Utah County storms test all of them at once.
The Provo Bench
Before it was Orem, this stretch of high ground north of Provo was called the Provo Bench, and it was mostly fruit orchards. The city is named for Walter C. Orem, a railroad man who helped connect the area to bigger markets, according to the City of Orem, which today calls itself Family City USA. Orem became a city in 1919, and it grew from about 8,400 people in 1950 to about 52,400 in 1980, per the census figures on Wikipedia.
Two building waves, twenty years apart
Orem’s homes went up in two big waves. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey, the 1970s and the 1990s are the two biggest decades for Orem homes, about 7,000 each. The 1970s homes are around 50 years old now, well past their first roof. The 1990s homes are just reaching the age where the first roof starts to give out. Either way, when one house on the street needs a roof, the neighbors are usually not far behind.
The hailstorm of August 2024
Utah County storms do not mess around. On August 13, 2024, hail fell across northern Utah County hard enough that UDOT sent snowplows to clear it off I-15 in Lindon, right next door, and Orem neighborhoods flooded. Orem’s public works director told the Daily Herald the storm probably exceeded a 100-year event. Hail bruises shingles and knocks the granules loose, and from the driveway you will almost never see it. If you are worried about your roof after a storm, let us know and we will have somebody there in less than 48 hours for a storm walkthrough.
A college town, too
Orem is home to Utah Valley University, and a lot of the city rents. The same census survey counts about four in ten Orem homes as rented. If you own one of them, you do not have to be there for the inspection. We fly the drone, walk the roof, and send you a dated photo report you can read from anywhere. On shingle roofs we recommend GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that run in our packages, and we keep the gutters in the conversation, because after a storm like 2024’s, the water has to go somewhere.

Recent work
Recent work in Orem
We’ve been in business since 2007, and Utah County is a regular stop for our crews. Here is one of our Orem jobs, from the air and up close.
A shake roof from the air
A shake-style roof on an Orem home, seen from the drone. Shake has a lot of texture, which makes worn spots hard to read from the ground. From up here we can see the hips, the valleys, and where one section is aging faster than the rest.
Where the roof meets the wall
Up close on the same Orem job. Wood shakes dry out, split, and curl over the years, and the spot where a roof runs into a wall is one of the first places water finds a way in. This is the kind of detail that goes in the photo report, so you see it the way we do.
Nearby, we also work in Provo, Springville, Lehi, Alpine.

Orem roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Orem homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. Financing that works for you, not the other way around. Pick a plan through one of our lending partners or our in-house financing, and if the first option does not fit your budget, we look at the next one together. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
From the ground, usually you cannot. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
Did the August 2024 hailstorm damage Orem roofs?
It is worth checking if you have not. On August 13, 2024, hail piled up so deep on I-15 in Lindon that UDOT sent snowplows, and Orem neighborhoods flooded. Hail damage on shingles is easy to miss from the ground. A free inspection puts dated photos of every slope on record, so you know where your roof stands.
I rent out a home in Orem. Can you inspect it without me there?
Yes. About four in ten Orem homes are rented. We fly the drone, walk the roof, and send you a dated photo report you can read from anywhere, so you can decide on a repair or a replacement without driving over.
Do you pull permits in Orem?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one. Orem takes building permits through a full online submittal, and we handle that part.
How many roofs have you done in Orem?
20+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records. 11 are in the 84058 ZIP code, 6 in 84057, and 3 in 84097. Every one photographed.
