Roofing on the west bank of the Jordan
Most of Taylorsville went up in the same twenty years, and that means most of its roofs are getting old together. Why that matters to you: if your neighbor is replacing a roof, there is a good chance yours is close behind.
It started with a log cabin by the river
Taylorsville is older than it looks. In November 1848 Joseph and Susanna Harker built a log cabin on the west side of the Jordan River, and that winter the Bennion brothers and a few other families crossed the river on the ice to join them, according to the Taylorsville history on Wikipedia. For a long time it was farmland. The city itself is young: residents voted to incorporate in 1995 with over 70 percent approval, and Taylorsville became a city on July 1, 1996.
Six in ten homes were built in the 1970s and 80s
When Salt Lake County started spreading west in the early 1970s, the farms in Taylorsville turned into subdivisions fast. You can see it in the numbers. According to the U.S. Census Bureau’s American Community Survey on Census Reporter, the median home in Taylorsville was built in 1982, and about six in ten were built between 1970 and 1989. Only about one in twenty is newer than 2010.
That makes Taylorsville a lot like Sandy: whole streets were built together, so whole streets come due together. A house from 1978 has usually had its roof replaced at least once already, and sometimes the last crew laid a second layer right over the first. We tear off to the deck every time, replace soft decking instead of covering it up, and the first two sheets are on us.
Down on the valley floor
Taylorsville sits low, at about 4,300 feet, right along the river. That means less snow than the benches, but long summer days of full sun on wide-open rooftops, and sun is what dries shingles out and cooks the granules off over the years. When we inspect a Taylorsville roof, we look hard at the south and west slopes, the vents, and the gutters, and you get a dated photo report of all of it. On shingle roofs we install GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages.
Homes and apartment roofs
We have 10 documented jobs in Taylorsville, in the 84123 and 84129 ZIP codes: nine homes and one apartment community, which you can see from the air at the top of this page. We roof for homeowners and for property managers alike, and our inspectors are paid a salary, not commission. If your roof has years left in it, we will tell you.
Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.
Recent work
Recent work in Taylorsville
We have been in business since 2007, and Taylorsville is a short drive north of our office in South Jordan. Here are two of our Taylorsville jobs.
One roof, a lot of neighbors
An apartment roof like this one covers a lot of households at once, with vents, swamp coolers, and ridgelines running the whole length of the building. We fly it, walk it, and photograph every section, so the property manager knows exactly what is up there.
Where the roof meets the wall
This Taylorsville home has a lower roof that runs into the wall of the upper story. Joints like that are where leaks like to start, so they get extra attention on every inspection, and they show up in your photo report.
Nearby, we also work in West Valley City, Kearns, Murray, West Jordan, Midvale.

Taylorsville roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Taylorsville homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes, and you get to pick the route. Go through one of our lending partners or use our own in-house financing, and either way you see the full cost on your estimate before you decide. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We document; your insurance company decides. We inspect, mark, and photograph every slope and give your carrier a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer their questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
Usually you cannot tell from the driveway. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, with our own crew. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
My Taylorsville house was built in the 1970s or 80s. Is it time for a new roof?
Not automatically, but it is worth a look. Most homes from those years are already on their second roof, and some have a second layer laid right over the first. The free inspection tells you how much life is left. If the answer is years, that is exactly what we will tell you.
Do you roof apartments and HOA buildings in Taylorsville?
Yes. We work with property management companies as well as homeowners, and one of our Taylorsville jobs is a multi-building apartment community. Take a look at our commercial roofing page for how those jobs run.
Do you pull permits in Taylorsville?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Taylorsville?
10 documented jobs, counted from our own job records: nine homes and one apartment community, in the 84123 and 84129 ZIP codes. Every one photographed.
