How Riverton went from farm town to suburb
Most of Riverton was built in one long rush, from the 1970s through the 2000s. Why that matters to you: the roofs from that rush are now hitting the age where shingles start to let go, and when one house on the street needs a roof, the neighbors are usually close behind.
Gardnersville to Riverton
Riverton started as a farm town. The first settlers came in the 1850s and called the place Gardnersville, after early landowner Archibald Gardner, and it took the name Riverton in 1879. It was not even a city until 1948, according to Riverton City’s own history. In the 1960s and 70s land prices took off, farmers sold, and the fields started turning into subdivisions.
2,820 people to 45,000
The numbers tell the story. Riverton had 2,820 people in 1970, about 11,000 in 1990, about 25,000 in 2000, and over 45,000 by 2020, per the census figures on Wikipedia. That means a huge share of the homes here went up in the 1990s and 2000s, often whole streets at a time. Those roofs are now roughly 15 to 35 years old. Many of them are still the first roof the house ever had, and they tend to wear out together.
Right next door
Riverton borders South Jordan, where our headquarters is, so a Riverton job is a short drive for our crews. We have 20+ documented residential jobs here, most of them in the 84065 ZIP code. When we are working in a Riverton neighborhood, our project managers go door to door to inform and educate the neighbors and offer free inspections. Our inspectors and sales reps are paid a salary, not commission, so if your roof has years left in it, you will hear exactly that.
Summer heat and the attic
Riverton sits on the valley floor at about 4,400 feet, and summers here can push past 100 degrees. Heat is hard on a roof from both sides: the sun bakes the shingles on top, and a poorly vented attic cooks them from below. That is why we look at your attic ventilation on every inspection, not just the shingles. On shingle roofs we run GAF Timberline HDZ or CertainTeed Landmark Pro, the same shingles that come in our packages, and all that sun is why a lot of Riverton homeowners also ask us about solar panels.
Just a reminder, we have financing options available. Learn more about financing, or you can schedule a free inspection or simply give us a call.

A shingle roof that carries solar panels
A Riverton roof with a full set of panels on it. When a roof like this needs work, the panels have to come off first and go back on after. We hold the solar license, so the same crew does both, with one schedule and one warranty conversation.

Riverton roofing questions
Questions we get all the time from Riverton homeowners.
Do you offer financing?
Yes. We regularly work with families who need in-house financing, and we also have lending partners. Ask about both during your inspection. Military, first responders, and teachers get an automatic $500 off.
Do you handle insurance?
We inspect, mark, photograph, and give your insurance company a complete dated report. With your OK, we also answer your carrier’s questions about what we documented. We are roofers, not public adjusters, so we do not negotiate or file the claim for you, and we never promise a free roof. What we make sure of is that nothing on your roof goes undocumented.
What counts as an act of God?
Damage nobody caused. Hail, wind, lightning, a tree that came down in a storm. Nobody was careless and nobody skipped a repair, the weather just showed up. That is the kind of damage most homeowner policies are written for. What they usually will not cover is a roof that simply got old, which is exactly the line good photos win and bad photos lose.
How do I tell if I have storm damage?
From the ground, mostly you cannot, and that is the problem. Look for shingle granules in the gutters or at the downspout, lifted or missing shingles after wind, dents on soft metal like vents and downspouts, and any new stain on an upstairs ceiling. If you spot any of it, get the free inspection and we will document every slope before it turns into a leak.
Do you work on roofs with solar panels?
Yes, in-house. We hold the S202 Solar Photovoltaic classification on our Utah contractor license, so panels come off and go back on with the crew that does your roof. No second company, no second wait, and one warranty conversation instead of two.
How old are most Riverton roofs?
Younger than most of the valley, but no longer young. Riverton had about 11,000 people in 1990 and about 25,000 in 2000, then kept climbing past 45,000 by 2020. The homes from that boom are now roughly 15 to 35 years old, and many still have the roof they were built with.
Does the summer heat matter for my roof?
Yes, more than people think. Riverton summers can push past 100 degrees, and a hot attic cooks shingles from underneath. Good attic ventilation lets that heat out. We check your vents on every inspection and tell you straight if they are doing their job.
Do you tear off the old roof or lay over it?
We tear off, down to the deck, every time. We refuse layovers: a cheap roof over an old one saves money now and costs you the next fifteen years. Soft decking gets replaced instead of covered up, and the first two sheets of decking are on us.
Do you pull permits in Riverton?
Yes. We pull the reroof permit where the city requires one.
How many roofs have you done in Riverton?
20+ documented residential jobs, counted from our own job records. 19 are in 84065 and 4 are in 84096, and every one is photographed.
